  1. Forgive me for stating the obvious here, but if you make it as far as a nineteenth full-length record, you must be doing something right. Shonen Knife have survived all manner of drama behind-the-scenes - lineup changes, fatal car crashes, high-profile support slots to Nirvana and Sonic Youth - to make it as far as cysriskdustsarwellspiraroutinovberti.coinfod, singer Naoko Yamano is their sole remaining founder member.

  6. Overdrive contains some of Shonen Knife’s darkest work to date, although of course it’s all still way more uplifting than a very uplifting thing cysriskdustsarwellspiraroutinovberti.coinfo a crane of some sort. I don’t know. It’s hypothetical anyway. Hell, even the opener is titled “Bad Luck Song,” and it comes on like Thin Lizzy‘s “The Boys Are Back In Town.”.” But h.
  7. Been listening to Shonen Knife since the late 80s, and like this one as much as any of their others. As mentioned by others, this one is different; they were trying to do something different. So be prepared for that 70s heavy sound they were after on a few tracks. But this album is a lot of fun from start to finish/5(12).
  8. Apr 15,  · "Overdrive" is a great tribute album to song craft and performance for 'rockin' Pop-Punk music, & is a Top album on own merits. This group is a classic, & Shonen Knife are pretty much authentic Pop-Punk royalty, with a verve in song craft that is very Nirvanesque when they were at their most pop-punkish moments on this album in terms of melody/5(14).

Finally, American Music Club and Redd Kross get special mention for their tailored-made and respective helpings of despair and dreamy ’70s sensibility on “Goodbye to Love” and “Yesterday Once.
